FRCN NUJ Welcomes Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde Home With Grand Reception In Lagos

The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Ikoyi, Lagos, on Thursday, came alive as colleagues, friends and union leaders converged to accord a rousing homecoming reception to the Deputy National President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Dr. Abimbola Abosede Oyetunde, following her return to Lagos.

The event, organised by the FRCN NUJ Chapel, was held in celebration of Dr. Oyetunde’s redeployment from Bronze FM, Benin City, after her elevation to the position of Deputy Director of News and Bureau Chief, Network.

The colourful reception, described as the first of its kind in honour of a female journalist within the chapel, highlighted Dr. Oyetunde’s distinguished career, professionalism and unwavering advocacy for journalists, particularly women in the media.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the NUJ FRCN Chapel, Comrade Wahab Akinlade, described the occasion as a moment of pride for the chapel, FRCN and the journalism profession in Nigeria.
According to him, Dr. Oyetunde’s return to Lagos in her new capacity was not only a personal achievement but a collective victory earned through years of dedication, integrity and commitment to ethical journalism and unionism.

“As the first female Deputy National President of the NUJ, she has continued to break barriers, inspire excellence and champion the rights and welfare of journalists,” Akinlade said, noting her impactful leadership at Bronze FM and her strategic role at the FRCN Network.
In his goodwill message, Chairman of the NUJ Lagos State Council, Comrade Adeleye Ajayi, described the homecoming as well deserved, tracing Dr. Oyetunde’s leadership journey from Secretary of the Lagos NUJ Council to her current national position.

He noted that her steady rise within the union reflects her competence, dedication and capacity to contribute meaningfully wherever she serves.

Director of the National Broadcast Academy (NBA), Dr. Sam Anyawu, also commended the FRCN NUJ Chapel for organising the reception, describing Dr. Oyetunde as a trailblazer and a woman of many firsts.

He recalled her tenure as General Manager of Bronze FM, where she repositioned the station and significantly improved its internally generated revenue.

Also speaking, Director of Marketing, FRCN, Baba Istifanus, said Dr. Oyetunde’s redeployment to Lagos was already yielding positive results, expressing confidence that her presence would further strengthen the FRCN Network.
In her remarks, Director, Lagos Operations, Princess Nike Adegoke, described Dr. Oyetunde as a consummate professional, an icon and a trailblazer, while offering prayers for continued wisdom and success in her career.

A major highlight of the event was the reading of Dr. Oyetunde’s citation by Mrs. Chinedu Okolo, which attracted applause from the audience.

Head of Department, Journalism, National Broadcast Academy, Korede Ogunbunmi, described the NUJ deputy national president as a leader who inspires excellence and supports the success of others, while also acknowledging the support of her family.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Ogunbunmi, who expressed appreciation to guests and colleagues for honouring Dr. Oyetunde with their presence.
Dignitaries at the event included members of the NUJ Lagos State Council and the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), among them Philip Nwosu, Vice Chairman; Tunde Olalere, Secretary; Olayide Awosanya, Assistant Secretary; Dr. Adeola Ekine, immediate past Chairperson of NAWOJ Lagos; and Jumoke Johnson, current Chairperson of NAWOJ Lagos State Chapter.

The Wahaab Akinlade–led executive of the FRCN NUJ Chapel was widely praised for organising a glamorous and memorable reception befitting Dr. Oyetunde’s stature as a seasoned media professional and union leader.
