Women Aligned for Growth (WAG) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare and economic wellbeing of vulnerable women through immediate food support and a new organic agriculture empowerment programme.
As part of its humanitarian intervention, WAG, in partnership with HIRON Foundation, Bomarah Foundation, BAM Foundation, Helen Otti Women Empowerment Foundation (HOWEF), Feed My People Foundation, Christy Ray Okoye Foundation (C.R.O.F.) and Bimbeads Concept, distributed 10kg food packs to vulnerable women in Lagos on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
The initiative, themed “Together, We Feed Hope. Together, We Empower Lives,” brought together women-led organisations, volunteers, donors and supporters to provide immediate assistance to women and families facing economic hardship.
Speaking on the intervention, Dr. Ifeyinwa Nwakwesi, MBBS, Growth Mindset and Integrative Lifestyle Specialist and Executive Chair of WAG, described the food distribution as an immediate humanitarian response, stressing that the organisation’s next phase would focus on helping vulnerable women achieve sustainable self-reliance.
Under its National Organic Food Sovereignty Programme, WAG plans to train and support vulnerable women and youths in organic agro-cultivation, sustainable food production and income-generating agricultural activities.
The programme, themed “Organic Agro-Cultivation for Vibrant Families,” will provide practical training in sack and urban farming, hectare-by-hectare organic cultivation, organic livestock and pasture development, regenerative agriculture and other sustainable farming practices.
It will also promote healthy food choices, chronic disease prevention and vibrant living, with Tai Chi exercises incorporated into WAG’s holistic approach to healthy living.
WAG said its long-term goal is to help vulnerable women move beyond temporary assistance by equipping them with the knowledge, skills and resources to produce food, generate income and support their families.
The organisation is calling on philanthropists, corporate organisations, community leaders, agricultural stakeholders and other well-meaning Nigerians to support the programme through funding, agricultural inputs, tools, land, training resources and other forms of assistance.
According to WAG, while the food distribution provides immediate relief, the planned organic agriculture programme is designed to create lasting economic opportunities for beneficiaries.
The campaign is anchored on the conviction: “My contribution plants seeds of independence.”
Dr. Nwakwesi reaffirmed WAG’s commitment to promoting organic food sovereignty, vibrant families, women’s empowerment, food security and sustainable development across Nigeria and Africa.
