Okeagbe ,a town in Akoko,Ondo State is noted for its serenity and quietude. But it is a town that is not in short of eminent Personalities.Okeagbe, has given birth to so many illustrious sons and daughters ,who have distinguished themselves in their fields of endeavour.One of such distinguished personality was late PA MICHEAL IDOWU OLADUNNI. Loved and adored by both family and town People.Therefore when he died ,there was silence in heaven and silence in Okeagbe.The town stood still!
Little wonder therefore ,on 30th and 31st of May 2024, the families of Late Pa Micheal Idowu Oladunni gave him a Carnival like burial. It was a burial that befits a great and illustrious son,like PA MICHEAL.
The burial which lasted for two days with Wake keep and final burial ceremony had begun even before the two days events proper in Okeagbe. In this report, FAKEYE ADERONKE brings you report and Pictures of how it all went down at the carnival like burial Event.

The Oladunnis of Okeagbe

The Oladunni family in Okeagbe, Akoko ,Ondo state are notable and well respected family. They are noted to be Leaders, mentors and encourager of good things within Ondo state and particularly in Okeagbe. They have made lots of contributions to the land of Okeagbe and Ondo state generally. In Fact, the family cannot be forgotten in a hurry at all, due to their legacies. One of the Patriarchs who is the younger brother to the deceased , OTUNBA, Asiwaju Solomon Oladunni too, is a notable man in the society. He is the Asiwaju Onigbagbo of Akoko and the Asiwaju of Oke Agbe. He is a renowned philanthropist and has contributed immensely to the growth of Okeagbe Indigenes. The Oladunnis have impacted greatly in Okeagbe kingdom and their impacts cannot be forgotten. Pa Micheal Idowu Oladunni who was the Patriach of the family was buried in grand style,with people speaking glowingly about him.The burial attracted people from all walks of life ,as they came to pay their last respect and honour him for his contributions to their growth and journey in life.

The Wake Keep.

The Wake keep, like carnival started on Thursday 30th of May,as sympathisers, guests and family members ,all gorgeously dressed and some adorned in traditional native wears that eloquently tells the story of the occasion- the burial of a great Patriarch.
Leading the way was the Reverend and members of St. George Anglican Church Okeagbe Akoko, Ondo. The atmosphere was fully charged.It was like a Carnival of sorts.. All the Children were clad in White and green gele and caps Outfit to honour their Father. Everyone paid tribute to late Pa Oladunni at the Event. In Laws, family members, well wishers ,and those Late Pa Oladunni had impacted one way or the other all came to honour him at the Wake keep ceremony. It was indeed a momentous occasion!

Otunba Asiwaju Solomon Oladunni, The Chief Host.

OTUNBA Asiwaju Solomon Oladunni was the Chief host of the day. He is the immediate younger brother to the deceased. He is the Asiwaju of Oke Agbe. A philanthropist, leader, and a business man of high repute. He stood by the children of his late brother to ensure everything went well. He has been a father figure right from onset and so he never relented . He made sure that things went well and every thing was put in place to make the occasion seamless,as far as the burial ceremony of his Elder brother was concerned. He, in company of his adorable wife honoured his late brother impressively. In an emotion laden voice , he spoke glowingly and extensively about their growing up years of over seventy years together, and how his late brother will scold and discipline him if he does anything contrary, which he believes, has helped him and moulded him to be who he is today.
Asiwaju Solomon was a former Vice Chairman Exxon Mobil, former Chairman of Petroleum and Gas Sector of Nigeria Employers Consultative Association , Chairman Oil Explorers and Producers Trade Group and so many Positions he has occupied and chaired. He has contributed immensely to the growth of Okeagbe and given out scholarships to Okeagbe Indigents.
