It was a day of glamour, royalty, and celebration in Afa Okeagbe as His Imperial Majesty, Oba Mofolorunso Samuel Arasanyin, the Ajana of Afa, marked his first coronation anniversary with pomp and pageantry.
Just a year ago, on the 24th of August 2024, Oba Arasanyin was crowned and presented with the staff of office by the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Within this short time on the throne, the monarch has made remarkable strides, touching lives and uplifting Afa Okeagbe with his visionary leadership.
The celebration drew a mammoth crowd of indigenes, sons and daughters of Afa, alongside eminent personalities and revered royal fathers. Among the dignitaries in attendance were the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo, accompanied by one of his queens; the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye, who shares a long-standing friendship with Oba Arasanyin; and several other traditional rulers from within Akoko and beyond who came to honor the Ajana.
Legal luminary Dr. Tunji Abayomi, a proud son of Okeagbe, graced the event, while the Minister of Interior, Dr. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, though unavoidably absent, sent his representatives. Hon. Esan Owolabi, Executive Chairman of Akoko North-West Local Government, was also in attendance, alongside Elder Ayodele Akande, FCA, former council chairman and now the Ondo State Commissioner for Sanitation and Water Resources, who represented Governor Aiyedatiwa.
The atmosphere reached its peak with the arrival of renowned philanthropist and 2027 Senate hopeful, Dr. Olumuyiwa Sylvester Adu, popularly known as Adu Cubana. His entrance electrified the venue as he was hailed by well-wishers and serenaded by the band, further heightening the festive mood.
The anniversary celebration was indeed a memorable gathering of culture, tradition, and unity — one that will linger in the hearts of Afa indigenes and guests for years to come. We bring you Excerpts
