It was all glitz and glamour on the 19th of July 2024 when Canadian Gateway High School, Lagos celebrated its Graduation and end of session Party. The event which took place at the high school premises located at 47 Dr. Fasheun Avenue Okota Lagos, was well decorated with white and red colour. The management, parents and well-wishers were filled with excitement as the event attracted many personalities from all walks of life to the school. Mr Timothy Awogbemi, the Chairman of the school, together with the management team, made sure everything went well. Below is the blow-by-blow account of how the ceremony went. Savour it.

WHAT STANDS CANADIAN GATEWAY HIGH SCHOOL OUT.

With the International School standard the school posseses, coupled with the serene environment located at 47, Dr. Fasheun avenue Okota Lagos, the school offers boarding and day system. They also give free study abroad counselling to their pupils , family, immigrants while relocation services is also available. With the enormous vision of the school Chairman, its a conducive learning environment for parents who crave for good schools for their children. The boarding facilities is top notch. The school also boasts of local and international travel exposure , airport pick up and drop off arrangements. At least 70% of their pupils have travelled out of the country to further their Education. Canadian Gateway high school has collaboration with Canada, America and the United kingdom Universities. They offer the services of opportunity to work abroad. Their world class ICT centre and modern laboratories are not exempted from what stands the school out.

MEET THE CHAIRMAN OF THE SCHOOL.

The Chairman of the school is Mr Timothy Awogbemi, a seasoned Educational Administrator. His love for sound and good education cannot be overstated in anyway. Mr Awogbemi is also in the Maritime sector, bringing his many experiences garnered over the years into the the world of education.

We had an exclusive interview with this brilliant gentleman who’s humble to the core. He spoke about his inspiration of establishing a school. ” “We realize that lots of students, after they finished their secondary school, Its usually their dream for them to go abroad and further their Education. So we are here to help the youth, the parents and students to go continue their Education at any of the overseas Countries. Be it Canada, America and United kingdom but mainly Canada is where we have affiliates and help students secure admissions into”. He went further ” We have lots of schools in our list, both colleges and universities of Canada. We run summer holiday and presently fifteen of our students are going for summer this July 2024. They will be off to Canada for a month holiday,” he added.

But how affordable is the school and what stands the school out? ” “Canadian Gateway high school is very affordable. For the school fees, it goes for #390k for senior class, #350k for Junior class per term while the boarding fee runs for #400k per term “. The things that stand our school out is our vision and mission. We are grooming Pupils and training them to study abroad and our target is at least 70% of our pupils ending up studying abroad. Even lots of schools in Nigeria are willing to collaborate with us, these are the things that stand us out”.

Of course , there is virtually nothing without challenges . What are the challenges faced since the establishment of the school? “One of our challenges is getting qualified teachers that are willing to work”.
In Canadian Gateway high school , We
have the foundation level class for pupils coming from other schools. ” We have what we call A level. Its a one year program for those who might not qualify. So this A level prepares them on what they will face. We have boarding facilities that can accommodate them which is so affordable “. 50% of our graduating students are already planning to go study abroad and by January next year by God’s grace, they will be in Canada”, he concluded.

MEET THE GUEST SPEAKER, DR. BOLU JOHN FOLAYAN.

The Guest Speaker of the day is Dr. Bolu John FOLAYAN, a seasoned Journalist, communication Scholar and presently a Chief lecturer in Mass Communication at Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Ogun state. He is also a visiting associate Professor of Communication at McPherson University Ogun state. He spoke about Holistic Education using the third eye. He said ” holistic Education is divided into different components such as intellectual which is the capacity of any child to think and be stable socially and physically.” He further added, ” A child needs to be trained artistically too. A child must be creative in all ramifications”. He enjoined parents and guardians to see beyond what a child is today.” Parent should look out for talents in their children and watch out for what the child loves which is passion”, he stressed.

Dr. Folayan was an associate editor at Daily Champions newspaper, former MD, Newswatch magazine and GM( Corporate affairs) at NICON group of companies . He was the winner of WAEC Award in 1984, being the best student in advanced level GCE West Africa scoring A in Geography, Economics, Government and General studies .

The third graduation and end of session Event of Canadian school started with processional hyme from the school choir, staffs and officials of the great school. Thereafter, there was opening prayer , bible reading, words of exhortation to encourage pupils and all present . There was also prayer for the graduads and for all pupils as well. The Principal addressed and admonished the graduating pupils to be a good ambassador. In his words he said, ” The school has taught you morals that should reflect in your lives, in order to stand out from the crowd”. ” Imitate the good and denounce the bad ones. Listen more and talk less”, he counseled.

There was also the presentation of prizes and Awards to primary and secondary categories. The yearbook was also launched at the event.

With the different cultural dance displays , hip-hop dance, graduands music presentation, staff choir, the parents and guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves. There was no dull moment all through the period the event lasted. The side attractions really added lots of colour and grandeur to the event.
