IFELODUN LCDA: 500 INDIGENT STUDENTS GETS FREE GCE FORMS
Okeowo Administration Sustains Annual Education Support Since 2021 Under OKE EDU Initiative
BY FAKEYE ADERONKE
The Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Council Development Area, Mayor Dr. Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo, today presented free GCE forms to 500 indigent students of Ifelodun LCDA. The presentation, held at the council secretariat, is the 5th edition of the annual gesture which commenced in 2021 under the administration’s OKE EDU Initiative.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Dr. Okeowo said the initiative was designed to give every child in Ifelodun, regardless of background, an equal opportunity to pursue academic success.
He noted that financial constraints should not be the reason any brilliant student is denied the chance to sit for external examinations and advance to higher institutions.
“The OKE EDU Initiative is our way of investing in the future. By removing financial barriers to GCE, JAMB, and other supports, we are telling our children that their dreams are valid and that this government stands with them,” the Chairman stated.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Mayor Dr. Okeowo urged them to take their studies seriously and make the best use of the opportunity.
Drawing from his personal experience, he said:
“I come from a very humble background. I am ‘Omo Iya oni tuwo’. My mother sold blended corn, ‘tuwo’, to train us while growing up. But because I was focused, serious, and determined, I was able to get to this height today by the grace of God. Your background is not your barrier. Your attitude and seriousness will determine how far you go.”
He further promised that his administration will continue to support students who excel in the examination and those willing to further their education through Bursary Awards at the tertiary level.
He charged the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors of Ifelodun LCDA and to make their parents and the council proud with excellent results.
Also speaking, the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon. Ajibola Ojora Adejiyan, commended Mayor Okeowo for sustaining the annual presentation of free GCE forms since 2021.
He described the gesture as “a legacy investment in human capital development” and urged the beneficiaries to study hard and come out in flying colors.
“Government has done its part by providing the forms. The rest is in your hands. Read, prepare well, and make Ifelodun proud,” Hon. Adejiyan said.
The 500 GCE forms presentation is part of a broader education support package under OKE EDU which also includes:
- Annual Free JAMB Forms for SS3 students
- Bursary Awards to indigent tertiary students
- Provision of educational materials to public primary schools
- Renovation of classrooms and support for students intellectual development
Since 2021, over 2,000 GCE forms and 2,500 JAMB forms have been distributed, while more than 1,200 tertiary students have benefited from bursary awards.
Parents, teachers, and community leaders at the event applauded the council for the consistent intervention, describing it as a lifeline for many families.
Mayor Dr. Okeowo reaffirmed that education remains a top priority of his administration and pledged that more interventions will be rolled out before the end of the tenure to ensure no child is left behind.
