LAGOS INVESTIGATES INCIDENT AT 11th ACCESS BANK LAGOS CITY MARATHON

The Lagos State Government has commenced an investigation into an incident that occurred on Saturday near the finishing line of the 11th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
According to a press statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, the incident involved an ambulance that had been officially deployed as part of the medical emergency response team for the marathon.
The government explained that the ambulance was conveying athletes who had earlier required medical attention when a female non-athlete within the event arena came in contact with the vehicle.
Event officials were said to have immediately alerted the ambulance crew to stop upon noticing the situation. The emergency medical team promptly assessed the woman at the scene and provided immediate care before transferring her to a public health facility for further evaluation.
She reportedly sustained bruises and complained of chest pains but was stabilised at the scene, with her vital signs confirmed to be stable. Authorities disclosed that she is currently receiving medical care and responding positively to treatment.
The statement further noted that the Ministry of Health and the Sports Commission are closely monitoring the situation, with senior government officials visiting the hospital to assess her condition.
“The patient is stable and under close professional supervision,” the Commissioner stated.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has assured the public that a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway
