NAWOJ Lagos Unveils Bold 2026 Vision At Maiden Congress

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter, on Saturday held its first congress of the year, setting the tone for its 2026 programmes with strategic deliberations, capacity-building sessions and the unveiling of its activities calendar.
The congress, which drew members from across the state, was described as a significant milestone aimed at repositioning women journalists for greater professional relevance and societal impact.
Addressing participants, the Chairperson of NAWOJ Lagos, Comrade Jumoke Johnson, said the congress was designed to strengthen internal cohesion while equipping members with skills needed to thrive in a changing media landscape.
“This congress sets the tone for the year. Beyond bonding, we are committed to equipping our members with relevant skills, amplifying women’s voices and driving initiatives that positively impact society,” Johnson said.
A major highlight of the event was a training session on Financial Literacy for Women in Media, facilitated by Mr. Olalekan Otun.
The session focused on personal finance management, investment planning and long-term financial sustainability, with participants engaging the facilitator through interactive discussions.
The congress also featured the formal unveiling of the NAWOJ Lagos 2026 Activities Calendar, structured across four quarters and tailored to professional development, family life and humanitarian engagement.
Johnson used the occasion to call on organisations, corporate bodies and development partners to support the association through sponsorships and strategic partnerships to ensure the successful implementation of its programmes.
In her remarks, the Secretary of the association, Comrade Anu M. Thomas, said the 2026 programmes were deliberately designed to be people-centred.
“Our activities this year address career advancement, family life and our responsibility to society at large,” she said.
The congress ended on an optimistic note, with members expressing satisfaction with the outcomes and confidence in the leadership’s vision for the year. Participants described the gathering as productive, engaging and impactful, reaffirming NAWOJ Lagos’ commitment to empowerment, advocacy and professional excellence.
